But I still cannot run X. Vesa can only give an screen of mess. In the xf86config, there is an item called i810 in card list, but the chip is <null>. I just switched from Redhat, so I am not sure whether I have installed these pacakges correctly. Is there any other way to check it? Can someone give more help? Or, is the i810 driver included in the offical cd? If included, what is the package name? Thanks. Endnote

First of all, uninstall xfcom-i810...
and apt-get install x-window-system.
If you have it already installed use

# dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86

to configure your XF environment. you can use xf86config and xf86cfg,
but the "debian way" is dpkg-reconfigure.

so long
