source-package installation lost with upgrade

Hello,

I was building some packages with compiler-optimizations
enabled with dpkg-buildpackage and installed the resulting
.deb - files, but I found that if I would like to perform
an apt-get upgrade, the packages I just installed would be
replaced by the packages available on the ftp-servers.
How can I prevent this? Is it necassary to put these
packages on hold or can I set up my own little
"server", add this to my apt-source-list and perform,
and if newer packages are available on other servers,
these would then be upgraded. If so, HOW can I do this?
Any experience?

Thank you,

Robert
