A quick search of the web or the mailing list archives could have helped
you on this one, it's a pretty frequently asked question.

That said: it's likely that you need to disable the "UseFBDev" option in
your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file.
This is due to some sort of bug in the stock Nvidia drivers, I believe.
