Re: startx causes system crash



the answer, in case anyone has the same problem, was to add the following
Option to XFree86-4 in the screen section:

Option "XaaNoMono8x8PatternFillRect"
in the "Screen" section of XF86Config-4

which I found at
www.probo.com/timr/savage40.html
