Do they have PostScript cards? If so, is CUPS set up to spew
directly to them?

If they're not PostScript, CUPS will render things into PCL for them
using its modified Ghostscript, which could be slow. It may be
faster on a Windows client if the Windows client is faster at
rendering PCL (ie, slow print server), or if the server is low on
memory or slow. I also don't know how efficient the PCL CUPS turns
out is... for all I know, it could be rendering it into a big bitmap
to send over. (Anyone know?)

Or something is set up wrong... check "top" while the print server is
sending the job. You'll need to look around a bit to see what the
problem is, perhaps.
