parallel port cd-burner

I have an external cd burner (Microsolutions Backpack) that connects to my
parallel port. I know that it should be able to work with linux, as it seemed
to "just work" when I was using Mandrake awhile back, but I can't get it
working now.

I recompiled my kernel and made sure all the modules I (think) I need are
included. Rebooted, did insmod parport, insmod paride, insmod bpck6, insmod
pg, insmod pcd. The guide I'm using for which modules I need is

According to that site, at this point I should be able to do 'mount -t iso9660
/dev/pcd0 /burner'. Here's what I get:

sgc:~# mount -t iso9660 /dev/pcd0 /burner
mount: special device /dev/pcd0 does not exist

And it doesn't. ls /dev/pcd* turns up nothing.

Also, typing 'cdrecord -scanbus' gets me
sgc:~# cdrecord -scanbus
Cdrecord 1.10 (i686-pc-linux-gnu) Copyright (C) 1995-2001 Jörg Schilling
cdrecord: No such file or directory. Cannot open SCSI driver.
cdrecord: For possible targets try 'cdrecord -scanbus'. Make sure you are

Under Mandrake, that would've given me a line that looks like

0,0,0 0) 'MITSUMI ' 'CR-4804TE ' '3.0D' Removable CD-ROM

Any ideas? I'm a bit lost as to where to start looking for answers.
