everyone of us was a newbie at one point of time ... don't be sorry
for it.. i had been using redhat since the last 6 years and have
shifted to debian around 8 months back and belive me these have been
the best 8 linuxing months i've spent yet ...

the kaffe VM works pretty well ... and it ya for a newbie the
learning curve with debian is there ... but then the rewards are
much better ... for the windows media part ... afaik mplayer
supports it .. and no it does'nt make debian unstable. It's as good
a software as they come.I run a stable debian only system ... this system does'nt even has
mplayer and acts as my mail gateway .. and it's as stable as they
get.
