my apologies for the blank message. (new mail client) :-(
once again ...
------
I am trying to configure pppoe to use the tap0 interface in order to
be able to use the OpenSource driver for Alcatel USB Speedtouch modem
with pppoe protocol.
When i execute pppoeconf, only the eth0 and dummy interfaces are
detected.
ifconfig only shows stats for eth0 and dummy. But in the KDE
control panel, under informations i can see a mention to the tun/tap
driver, so i suppose the module is loaded.
I search google and debianhelp for info on tap0 interface but found
nothing to answear my basic questions:
- is the tap0 supposed to be up before i configure/start pppoe?
- if yes how can i bring it up?
- if not how can i configure pppoe to use it?
- on my searches i found references of tap0 for ethertap and
tun/tap. which is what?
Answears and/or pointers to information about the tun/tap
drivers are welcome.
My box is a i786 running a fresh install of woody release 1.
