As far as I know, > the only dependencies they have in common are libc and X. It's because of the transition from gcc 2.95 to gcc 3.2. KDE 2 was built with gcc 2.95; the new KDE 3.1 packages that should be arriving in unstable Real Soon Now will be built with 3.2. At that point you will be able to install Gnome 2.2 and KDE 3.1 on the same machine. Craig
