No, you aren't. It's in /usr/share/debconf/confmodule, but because of
the way that works you won't be able to simply grep for it.

No.

Did you see the 'Please be sure to run "dpkg --configure <something>"'
message?

Look in /var/lib/dpkg/info/gdm2.templates. If you find a template with
daemon_name on its Template: line, then I'd bet that you need to run
/usr/share/debconf/fix_db.pl (but take a copy of everything in
/var/cache/debconf first, as you'll probably want to file a bug report
against debconf). If you don't find such a template, then it's a bug in
the gdm2 package.
