This is the correct behavior.  If you weren't using nVidia's binary driver,
you wouldn't even be getting acceleration on the one head, since you can't
use DRI and Xinerama at the same time.

That said, I run the same configuration as you:

(II) NVIDIA(0): NVIDIA GPU detected as: GeForce4 MX 440
(II) NVIDIA(1): NVIDIA GPU detected as: GeForce4 MX 420

*without* Xinerama (evil, evil Xinerama, must kill whoever thought that one
up) and I have acceleration on both heads (lets me play tuxracer on either
monitor depending on my mood).
