I have the same camera (BTW, only one `m' in camera), and it's
wonderful.  The problem that you have is a permissions issue.  Read
/usr/share/doc/libgphoto2-2/README.Debian (if you're using unstable,
different location if you're using stable/Woody) for the possible
approaches.  Basically, you need to make sure that your user has proper
permissions for the device in /proc/bus/usb.
