Re: Newbie: where to place src files for compilation



I always put my sources in /usr/local/src and compile them 
there...excluding kernel sources.  I believe those go in /usr/src 
(following guidelines from 
http://www.linuxnewbie.org/nhf/Compiling_Kernels/Kernel_Configuration_and_Compilation.html).

I use the above link everytime I make a kernel (which isn't much) or 
modules.  It's a very thorough HowTo.
