Sorry, I made some mistakes.
There are two ways of doing this.
You will still need the cupsys-server, cupsys-client, and pnm2ppa
packages whichever method you choose
One way is to use the package cupsomatic-ppd. Everything will work
pretty much automagically. But this package is not updated and the
drivers or ppds you get are old.
The other way is to use foomatic, which is the new version of
cupsomatic, but it requires more work to get it working.
Instructions are:
Download foomatic-db and foomatic-bin and their deps.
Then as root run
foomatic-compiledb -t ppd pnm2ppa
this will generate the necessary file in /etc/foomatic/ppd/
Then make a link in /usr/share/cups/model/ to the file
/etc/foomatic/ppd/HP-DeskJet_710C-pnm2ppa.ppd the command is
ln -s /etc/foomatic/ppd/HP-DeskJet_710C-pnm2ppa.ppd
/usr/share/cups/model/HP-DeskJet_710C-pnm2ppa.ppd
Restart cups: /etc/init.d/cupsys restart
Then you will be able to use the web interface for cups to get the
printer configured.
