Strange problem with fonts

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1

I have two machines both running debian unstable.

On one, the pstree command shows the tree of processes perfectly within the
kde konsole application

If I ssh into the other (still in konsole), the same command has all the line
characters replaced by 'a' characters (they might be accented versions of a).

Where does the fonts for the line sets get generated on a character based
application - why are they different on the different machines (but because
of ssh are being displayed on the same x server).
