No, if you run "apt-get install gnome2" (or gnome if your packages are
coming from experimental) the GNOME 1 desktop components will go (panel,
applets, control center, nautilus) but you'll be left with all of the
libraries and applications. 

I am writing this mail on a GNOME2 Sid machine, which I upgraded with
"apt-get -t experimental install gnome2".  Evolution, Galeon, and all of
the libraries are still around -- only the desktop was upgraded.
