There is the gnome-print project, which is supposed to give you pretty
"print" dialogs, but I don't known how well it integrates with CUPS.
The closest thing right now, probably, is gtklp (available as a Debian
package since, IIRC, woody), which is a "Frontend for cups written in
gtk", but it doesn't integrate with any other programs.

Hmm.  A Google search of "gnome-print cups" yields this page:
http://lists.ximian.com/archives/public/gnome-print/2002-July/001054.html
which claims that they are working on using cups directly, and that it
should be ready for Gnome 2.2.
