I never have used the --initrd option, for several reasons:
a) --initrd requires a Debian only cramfs patch
b) I install third party modules after the fact, and I am sure i
would forget to update the initrd
c) I see no need to have all the drivers under the sun for my own
machines; and it is easier to not use initrd.
When initrd is incorporated into mainstream kernels, I may
rethink my preferences.
