RE: Problems with xmms.

hmmmm *perplexed*. Interestingly the noise i'm talking about starts at boot
up of linux, although ps aux doesn't really show anything running that
should be causing it. As i've compiled the via sound modules as part of the
kernel (as opposed to loadable modules) I don't expect any issues. One
thing i've noticed is that if I open up a terminal and go "xmms&" , xmms
will start up and if I adjust the volume via the xmms volume bar, then the
sound increases/decreases accordingly. This seems to point to me that it's
somehow an issue with xmms. Anyone confer with this idea?

No, actually. I'm hearing what sounds like a terrible digitization noise.
There are just some nasty artifacts in the output when I try and listen to
an
MP3 or OGG file. I know that the files are good, because when I listen to
them on my Rio Volt, they sound fine. Also, they sounded fine a couple of
weeks ago.

At any rate, I'm seriously considering just building a new kernel, since the

latest kernel (2.4.19) supposedly supports the via8223 chipset out of the
box,
but this is annoying.
