How so? Furthermore, what extra steps do you take to avoid having to use
one? When I built a 2.4.19 kernel yesterday and omitted the '--initrd'
option, I was unable to boot. I recovered with the old 2.4.18 kernel, made
an initrd, and was back up and running after the reboot. Given that I've
detailed the exact commands I used to build a kernel, what did I miss?
