It's true that they are no longer available from Microsoft.

It's emphatically _not_ true that the license terms do not allow for
redistribution.  What they do not allow is that (a) you change the
packaging (each copy must be a "true and complete copy, including all
copyright and trademark notices"), or (b) distribute them on a
for-profit basis.

This is problematic for Debian main, etc. which is why they were
obtained via wget in the first place, rather than put directly into the
distribution, but it doesn't mean you can't use them.

There's a project at SourceForge where you can download them:

  http://sourceforge.net/projects/corefonts/

I haven't installed the msttcorefonts package in a while but it seems to
me that you can tell it where to get the fonts file; if so you can
download them by hand then let msttcorefonts install them for you.


Anyway, the problem has been resolved in msttcorefonts 1.1.0, currently
in Debian unstable.
