Not to take anything away from SpamAssassin, but SpamBouncer actually
has been updated within the last month (surprised me, too). The last
such update was 16 August 2002, according to www.spambouncer.org. I'm
now running the "bleeding-edge" version, and it hasn't been giving me
any problems.

Don't let that dissuade you from installing SpamAssassin -- I haven't
yet taken the plunge myself, but I've read that you can run them both in
parallel.
