fair enough
both are linux
debian uses a deb files for install
gentoo uses portage which means everything is built from source on your 
machine ( an advantage if you
know how to optimize the compiler )

debian has flavors stable , unstable ,testing  while gentoo has only one 
falvor
this can be a bad thing or a good thing depends on how you look at it ( 
if may end goal is a workstation it's good ).

both have a  very efficent and painless upgrade proccess .
