Woody & network errors

Of the 26 Linux/Unix machines, the Woody boxes are the only ones that
ifconfig reports errors. With uptimes in excess of 5 days on many of the
non-Woody machines, they still show 0 errors.

It's been the policy of the 'powers that be' that we use only self compiled
custom kernels. 2.4.4 is as far as we've gotten without certain problems
cropping up. 2.4.18 broke Cups... will only print the frist line of a
document then hang. Applying the suggested kernel patches fixed Cups, but
broke the USB side of things. For production machines we'd rather be
behind the times and up, than on the bleeding edge and down. :)
