Re: trouble with gnome and x-window-manager
hi once again,
bonjour Christophe,
ok, you're right, I didn't make myself clear enough...
So, after I installed gnome, anything I do with update-alternatives
does not make startx start the really selected windowmanager
anymore. I don't want to start neither gnome nor sawfish! I just want
to start wmaker or twm purely for example - anything that currently is
x-window-manager - that's all. Everytime I run startx, gnome and sawfish
come up again.
Ok, if I put "exec x-window-manager" into the .xinitrc in ~/ it works
fine for me, just the way it did before gnome, but why the hell is
the x-window-manager ignored without it? Why is .xinitrc necessary
now?
I deleted all .gnome* files, but it seems as if the deb-configurescripts
or gnome itself must have changed something in /usr/X11R6/lib/X11 or something.
To put it in a nutshell: I want to know if and what gnome did to the
xbase-clients environment to make it ignore x-window-manager and how I
can fix it.
I hope this time I spoke clearer ;-)
greetings
tony
