Woody uses 2.2 as main kernel under normal install.

If bf-2.4 is used, you get 2.4.

If you dare, you can replace with 2.0 stable kernel.  Debian has them as
an option.

Linus decide these version number.  Any even one are called "stable"
branch.  Stability of them varies.  2.4 kernel until 2.4.17 was rough
ride (lack of stability).
