meta key lost on latest debian xterms and gnome-terms....

Hello!

i heavily use vim macros which are triggered using the meta key
(normally bound to the alt keys on the PC kbd)...

since the latest updates, that doesn't works anymore.... :(
    in the previous versions of the gnoemterminal, there was at least
    some setting to enable the meta key, but this seems ot have
    disappeare from the actual versions...

 so if anyone has a hint on how to activate again the meta key on my
 terminals....
