Of course, this may not work perfectly...  Hopefully it's been fixed
by now, but ISTR that, at one point, some service was being killed in
runlevel 1 and not restarted in other runlevels.  My memory is that
it was portmapper or NFS, but I see that my current rc2.d has that
handled, so it either is fixed or I misremembered the service.

Either way, though, it's possible that a similar bug has crept in
even if the case I remember has been fixed.
