Mgetty - Dial-in Server - LAN access -- HELP

OK, I have gotten mgetty & pppd to permit me to dial in and authenticate on my server (see previous posts for further details).

However, an obvious reason why I can access other computers on the LAN would seem to be this:

Our network structure is 10.0.0.1-254, netmask 255.255.255.0 (BTW, isn't that more simply written 10.0.0.0/24?)

However, upon logging in the client is assigned by pppd 10.0.0.16 (which is correct), but the netmask is 255.0.0.0 (although I have a line in the options.server for the correct netmask). Further, the ppp0 listing in ifconfig is: inet addr: 10.0.0.10 (server address), P-t-P: 10.0.0.16, Mask 255.255.255.255

why?
