It can be done in testing/woody too. I have it and confirmed:
$ apt-cache policy msttcorefonts
msttcorefonts:
Installed: 1.0.0
Candidate: 1.0.0
Version Table:
1.0.1 0
70 http://http.us.debian.org unstable/contrib Packages

800 http://http.us.debian.org testing/contrib Packages

This is not pure but nicer fonts.
