Just out of curiosity: are you using a SB Live! card (emu10k1 chip)? If so, 
it's probably the soundcard. Creative doesn't seem to have heard of IRQ 
sharing yet and their cards cause instability when other devices on the same 
interrupt aren't _very_ cooperative.
