HELP! Trident 4DWave/SiS 7018/Ali 5451 PCI Audio doesn't work

I've been unable to get my sound card to work, and was hoping for some help.

All the devices appear okay, all the modules seem to load, no messages in
syslog, but when I:

cat sound.au > /dev/dsp

it just sits there (until I kill it), and I get no sound whatsoever.

Here's all the relavant info I can think of, please let me know if you need
more. I'm stumped and don't know what to do next. Can anyone help?
