I'm replying to this, and also cc'in Lenny Leblanc, for the reason that
my
problem is similar enough
to Lenny's that solving one might help solve the other.
I went over to my linux system and ps -A 'd my system. What daemons I
saw
included:
kflushd, kswapd, syslogd, klogd, diald, inetd, lpd, wwwoffled, proftpd,
and atd.
Of those, I don't know what atd, kflushd, or kswapd are, at all.
Diald rang a bell, because I had tried to install linux to use either
modem or
NIC card -- but it's never
recognized the modem. But diald is part of that. inetd causes me
suspicion,
because I *think it might
be a routing daemon such as you describe*. wwwoffled probably isn't a
part of
this, but it is internet
related anyhow. Proftpd could concievably be a daemon such as you
describe,
also.
Are any of these likely to cause the internet crash described by Lenny
Leblanc,
and also experienced
by me?
[p.s. I also have apache and Rosen up... I probably should remove them
until
such time as I need them,
though.]
