Re: starting nfs

Osamu,

I'm running potato.

1. knuth:/etc# uname -a
    Linux knuth 2.2.19-idepci #1 Sat Jun 9 13:39:29 EST 2001 i686 unknown

2. I started out by downloading the two boot floppies and did a network
install from them, getting everything off the debian site. Later I did a
dselect all and downloaded more stuff. I haven't modified or added
anything in the system, although I have downloaded the opera browser and
apache.

3. Kernel-nsf?? How would I find out?

I understand more now about nfs running over rpc and I can see that
rpc.mountd is running now.

It looks like the remaining problem is one of permissions.

knuth:/etc# exportfs -v
/ *.amplepower.com(rw,async,wdelay,nohide,insecure,no_root_squash)

[root@feynman /etc]# mount /mnt/knuth/
mount: knuth.amplepower.com:/ failed, reason given by server: Permission
denied

I can ping both ways so the network and DNS are working.

[root@feynman /etc]# ping knuth
PING knuth.amplepower.com (192.168.8.30) from 192.168.8.26 : 56(84) bytes
of data.
Warning: time of day goes back, taking countermeasures.
64 bytes from knuth.amplepower.com (192.168.8.30): icmp_seq=0 ttl=255
time=1.902 msec

knuth:/etc# ping feynman
PING feynman.amplepower.com (192.168.8.26): 56 data bytes
64 bytes from 192.168.8.26: icmp_seq=0 ttl=255 time=0.2 ms

Do you have to reboot after changing /etc/exports? I haven't had to do
that on other systems.
