I think that's likely the wrong solution to the problem.
Post your partition table and disk free space:
$ fdisk -l
# If that doesn't display partitions, specify the disk explicitly
$ df
If you have sufficient slack space either on this system, on removeable
storage, or on a networked system, you can tar off your partition(s),
repartition, and restore. No reinstallation of Debian required.
If you want to lighten the load, you can remove some of the larger
packages -- tetex and xemacs are two of the biggest -- and restore them
down the road. No need swapping out everything where the 80/20 rule
applies handily.
Even if you use a tool like gpartd, creating a backup is still
*strongly* recommended.
