Loading OSS
Linux audio still baffles me. AFAIK, I'm not running ALSA or OSS, but audio works.
bumby:~# fgrep OSS /boot/config-2.4.17-k7t266
# CONFIG_CHR_DEV_OSST is not set
CONFIG_SOUND_OSS=m
lsmod does not show "sound" loaded (and modconf doesn't show that OSS is loaded, either).
But xmms works fine, as does playing system sounds, and playing extracted audio files (with xcdroast).
xmms seems to have brought it's own OSS library along:
bumby:~# locate OSS.so
/usr/lib/xmms/Output/libOSS.so
but that doesn't explain to me why sound in more than just xmms. How does xcdroast manage to play audio. Can someone explain?
Now, should I run modconf and load the sound.o module? And what does that do for me (considering how sound seems to work).
