Does 'ls --color=auto' work? Ok, then put this in your ~/.bashrc (if you
are using bash):
alias ls='ls --color=auto '

You might need to enable bash to read the options in .bashrc. Make sure
~/.bash_profile has:
if [ -f ~/.bashrc ]; then
    source ~/.bashrc
fi
