The description looks promising: "Scribus is a Layout program for
Linux®, similar to Adobe® PageMaker?, QuarkXPress? or Adobe® InDesign?,
except that it is published under the GNU GPL."

It's also QT-based but differs from KWord in that it appears to be more
design-oriented. Kword aspires to be the FrameMaker / Ventura Publisher
of the QT world. Moreover, it also appears to have less dependencies, not
depending on any purely KDE stuff:
