Maybe check the different versions of xine, xine-lib, etc.

Try to upgrade xine to 0.9.4

Free tip: xine-lib-d4d (for viewing DVDs) <0.9.4 doesn't work well
with recent 2.4 kernels (recent is >= 2.4.10).
The 0.9.6 works fine here, and the 0.9.5 should also work fine.
