Thanks, but I'm not sure I understand what youmean. Is that the
font path in /etc/X11/XF86Config-4? I have all fontdirectories 
there, and I even re-generated the file with xf86config...
Something happens and the xserver doesn't seem to like those fonts.

I'll keep trying.
(Last resort will be purging and reinstalling all X packages! :-)
