mldvi, tmview and latex fonts

On my new woody system tmview shows a lot of fonts just as squares
when viewing a dvi file.

I also tried out mldvi today.

I complains about not finding phvr8 and says "Transcript written on
mfput.log"

However I could not find any mfput on my system.

Some other messages:
---------------------------------------------
grep: phvr8t.log: No such file or directory
mktexpk: `mf \mode:=ljfour; mag:=1+0/600; nonstopmode; input phvr8t' failed to make phvr8t.600pk.
kpathsea: Appending font creation commands to missfont.log.
Error while executing kpsewhich
kpathsea: Running mktexpk --mfmode / --bdpi 600 --mag 1+0/600 --dpi 600 phvr8t
mktexpk: Running mf \mode:=ljfour; mag:=1+0/600; nonstopmode; input phvr8t
This is METAFONT, Version 2.7182 (Web2C 7.3.1)

kpathsea: Running mktexmf  phvr8t
! I can't find file `phvr8t'.
<*> ...ur; mag:=1+0/600; nonstopmode; input phvr8t

Am I missing some fonts? I have installed about all the available
Latex-related packages I could find.
