Don't know what else to recommend as I don't use Staroffice. I have
the above exports in .bashrc and now I 'do' see the umlaut correctly.
I didn't before adding the above (Thanks to Karsten, IIRC).
You might look in the archives for July and/or August. There was a
long thread on this subject.
