Sylpheed

I've searched the Debian FAQ and the mailing list archives but am having
no luck even though I'd bet a zillion dollars that this question has
been asked before...

How do I upgrade a single package and it's dependencies from the stable
versions to a less stable version like testing?

I'm running a plain potato system but I want to install Sylpheed which
is not available in stable. I tried downloading the .deb package and
installing it but of course it then wanted a newer libc, etc. etc.

Is there an easy way to use Slypheed without completely upgrading my
system to testing or unstable? The system in question can not afford
downtime.
