Problem with Promnise IDE Controller between Kernel 2.2.19 and 2.4.8 ??
I have a problem not strictly connected to Debian, but because I am running
Debian, I will ask it here:
I have installed the kernel 2.2.19 from the Woody CD distributed on the Linux
Tag in Stuttgart this year. I had to use the special IDE kernel to get my
Promise Ultra IDE Controller running. Because I have two harddisks on this
controller and a CD ROM on an ordinary IDE Controller, my harddisks are
recognized like:
hda - disk 1
hdc - CD ROM
hde - disk 2
Now I compiled a new kernel myself (2.4.8) and started it. It all works fine,
except a very annoying and bad behaviour: the new kernel does recognize the
disks in a different sequence:
hda - CD ROM
hde - disk 1
hdg - disk2
This is no problem for the lilo.conf, where I can specify the root disk
seperately, but what to do with /etc/fstab ??
Can I specify the way the disks are detected by the IDE controller ???
Or is that due to the fact, that I have compiled in the usual IDE controller
AND the Promise driver ??
Thanks for any help,
Peter Biechele
