As others have written, most movies use the Sorenson codec, which is not
available at all for Linux.

However, you can use WINE (or the Crossover plugin, when it's available,
at www.codeweavers.com) to run QuickTime for Windows, assuming that you do
have an i386 machine.  The WINE in Debian is not new enough, though.  You
need a more recent WINE.  Once you have a recent WINE, you should be able
to just install QuickTime and run it.
