mason firewall building tool

hello all
i was just wondering if any of you have ever tried using a program / package
called mason to build firewalls on debian machines.
i'm running 2.2r3 and would like some pointers on getting a decent firewall
up using this utility. my other option is <sigh> direct interaction with
ipchains, which i'm trying to avoid, as i am a linux firewall newbie.
the setup here isn't too complicated:
the box running potato is hooked up to the net through an ADSL connection on
eth1 / ppp0, managed by Roaring Penguin PPPOE. it is connected to the inner
network through eth0 -- though the inner network consists of only one other
box (so far).

i'd appreciate any tips / pointers -- thanks in advance :)
