congratulations. it's really the way to go, and just you wait, in a
week or two, you aren't going to believe you used windoze anymore.

have you signed up for the sane mailing list? i know scanning is a big
topic and a source of problems, but its getting better by the day.

you should start using exim and kick sendmail. it's a lot easier to
configure. just do 'apt-get install exim' as root and the system will
replace sendmail with exim.

do you know SMTP and how mail works, what MTA's (mail transfer agents,
like sendmail and exim) and MDA's (mail delivery agents, like procmail
(but also sendmail)) are and how they interact. do you know about
relaying and that jazz? if not, go ahead and ask. we'll be happy to
help.

what do you have? a system that you simmply want to use for fetchmail?
that's not hard at all, and any of the MTA's that ship with debian
should be able to do that out of the box. i think your problem might
be with the .fetchmailrc, so why don't you blank out the password
stored in it and send it over to me?

the best way i found is setting up an IMAP server, using a windoze
machine (or vmware) to upload all your mail to the IMAP server, and
the fetchmail to download it all. i know this is weird, but it's the
most reliable way i found when i had the same problem.

are you connected 24/7? because then i'd be happy to give you an IMAP
account so you don't have to set up your own server, although it would
be good practice.

mutt is awkward in the beginning, but after a while it's better than
anything else. seriously, it's just so powerful and easy to use that i
almost suggest you continue sticking with it and wait these 2 weeks it
takes until you are a pro with mutt! again, ask anything you are
unsure about, even if the question seems stupid! only questions that
aren't asked are stupid questions!

i can't help you, although you might want to look at Balsa too. But X
Mail clients are not going to reach "up" to the "comfort" of Outlook
Express... no yet. mutt does.
