I assume you mean "without rebooting from 2.2.19", since 2.4.5 won't run in
the first place.  From within 2.2.19, you can find out what your PCI devices
claim to be by using lspci and cat /proc/pci.

And, yes, 2.4 seems to be having a lot of trouble with identifying certain
disks right now...
