Don't use xhost. Try 'export XAUTHORITY=~/.Xauthority' as your ordinary
user instead. That way, unless you use 'su -' or su to a user who can't
read your .Xauthority file, the authority to use the X server will be
transferred properly. If you want to su to a user you can't read your
.Xauthority, you can do tricks with xauth.
