But he said he didn't want to use modules. So compile them in, but for some reason iptables requires that modules be enabled in your kernel, even if you compile them directly into the kernel. I ran into this problem before, and had someone tell me the same thing. In make [x|menu] config, enable loadable modules, but don't actually configure anything as modules.
